Please respect all participants as we celebrate the animals who’ve touched us and the pets we’ve loved and lost. All creatures are welcome, and those attending without pets are encouraged to bring photos or keepsakes.

Try not to squeal with delight as our various rescue groups parade around the stage with some of their select pets in need of forever homes! Rescue group representatives will also be available to provide information on adopting a new pet companion. Please remember, adopt don’t shop!

12:30 PM: K9 Police Dog Demo
Jake Wright, Owner, Precision K9 Work
People depend on police dogs all over the world. They serve and protect our communities daily, performing skills such as: protection, narcotics or explosives detection, and tracking criminal or missing persons. It takes special dogs and very special trainers to create productive policing teams, and this is achieved through intensive and careful training. An Austin K-9 team will be providing an amazing demo with a police dog certified in narcotics detection and patrol duty, so make sure to stop by the Main Stage and see a police dog in action!

Erica Falbaum, Founder/President, Pet Education Project
Did you know that nearly 8 million animals enter US animal shelters or rescues each year? So many of us animal lovers dream of getting involved in animal rescue, but in addition we need to consider preventing shelter surrenders in the first place. Teaching our children (and each other) about proper pet care and responsibility can impact generations to come on the proper treatment of our animal friends. Learn about some of the many ways to assist your local community by helping animals of all kinds.

1:30 PM: Slobbery Smooches Pet Kissing Competition
According to a recent study at the University of Arizona’s Human-Animal Research Initiative, kissing your best canine friend could be good for your health. That’s great news for those of you who happen to know that YOUR best canine friend gives the very best slobbery smooches! Why, you ask? Because you and your pooch not only have a shot at some amazing photo opps, but also to be the envy of bazillions of other canines and their companions. You can win a super awesome prize, so be there or be square!

Learning these skills will keep your mind and ease and prepared for nearly anything!

3:00 PM: The Hilarious - and Not So Hilarious - Truth About Living With Cats
Donna Powell, President and Founder Street Cat Rescue
All too often, kitties get a raw deal when they get dumped at a shelter or rescue because of behavior issues. Most people don’t realize that most of these behavior issues are preventable and correctable - you just have to understand what Sir Kitteh is trying to tell you. If you share your home with one of these quirky furballs, then you definitely won’t want to miss your chance to learn about everything kitty and one-up everyone else with your crazy impressive knowledge of all things C-A-T.

3:30 PM: Pet Musical Chairs Competition
Musical Chairs is a doggy variation of the classic children’s game. Music plays as handlers walk with their dog’s off-leash counter-clockwise around a circle of chairs. When the music stops, the handlers instruct their dogs to sit by verbal request and hand signal only (i.e., without touching them) and rush to sit on a vacant chair in the circle. Last dog (and person) sitting wins!

4:00 PM: Reptiles, Amphibians and Creepy Crawly Critters 101
Austin Foux, Owner, Austin Reptile Shows
Snakes and Skinks! Lizards and Geckos! Turtles and Toads! These incredible creatures continue to grow in popularity with pet owners everywhere. Sadly, many prospective pet parents have no idea what they are getting into, leaving millions of animals misunderstood and mistreated right from the start. Learning about the natural history, safe handling, and proper captive care of these beautiful creatures is the key to ensuring that our reptile friends thrive as they should.

4:30 PM: The Biggest, Baddest, Bestest Pet Costume Contest Evah!
Pet supermodels sashaying their costumed selves on the Pet Expo’s (err, very makeshift) catwalk? Um, yes please, and we’ll take a second serving too, thankyouverymuch! Show off your pet dressed in their costumed best for the super popular Pet Costume Contest! Any pet is welcome to participate, whether they’re canine, feline, porcupine, or just simply divine. There’s just one itsy bitsy teeny tiny caveat: to be eligible to win, your pet must wear a costume. Audience applause will determine first, second, and third-place winners. You can be confident that we’ve had extensive totally-scientific training in judging these types of things and can quickly identify audience enthusiasm down to a single clap too. To enter, bring your pet to the Main Stage by 4:15 PM and be ready to work, sashay, shante!
